What's my name?!?

I was named after my Aunt Margo. While I grew up only seeing her periodically on visits it is almost eerie how much we look and act alike now. Anyway, I never knew where my dad's family came up with the name Margo, it wasn't exactly common in the mountain town he grew up in. I have just recently found out my grandmother named her after Margot Lane, a character in the old radio serial The Shadow. In the 80's it was made into a movie . I used to dislike the distinctiveness of my name. I longed to have one of those names that when you go to a gift shop, there are decorative magnets with the name pre-printed on them. Even now although the choice of names on such items has broadened, you still won't find many things with "Margo" on it. The name has gained popularity, and it is always something that people recognize, but we have never quite made it main stream. Now I'm quite glad for that.

I never knew my fathers mother, she passed away when my dad was young. I also don't know nearly as much about her as I would like. I know she was a great cook who made a wonderful poppyseed bread. I know she was very involved in her church and many community organizations. Besides naming one child after a radio show character, at least two of her other children were named after actors she liked. And now, I am warmed by the knowledge that she was a bigger celebrity and character fanatic than I am. Some things must be genetic :).
